Color Splash and Leaf Mask

The appeal of a color run is running directly into a cloud of color, and coming out of the clouds of color with it still on you. I knew when I created the logo and poster for this event that the neon color used in the event should be used as a focal point. I created the splashes of color using the brush tool, almost by accident, and used the leaf symbol as a mask because the event took place in the fall when there's fall colors. It's a little bit of a play on words, colors vs. fall colors.

Color Run Logos

Logos were a Work in Progress

I made a couple of different logos for the event. I made one that was really fun and colorful for the poster, and the other solid logo would be used on the t-shirt design. The logic behind that was simple. There wasn't enough room in the budget for a colorful t-shirt that would be covered in color chalk anyway. Each color added to the design would have to be an additional charge, and rather than the orange color, they went with a teal color. It seemed to match other sponsor logos better.

Color Run Posters

Colorful Posters with Photos

When working on projects for events, I always like using images of real people having fun rather than using some random stock photography. The actual photos bring a authenticity that is hard to replicate, and brings a more immediate response. I also wanted to keep the audience in mind. This poster was going to be hung around Lake Crystal and the surrounding area. For reference, Lake Crystal has about nine thousand people living in town and within the city limits. Chances are pretty good that if someone in town were to see the poster, they probably have met the people in the poster before. Plus, people generally like to see other people having fun.
