Research and Low Fidelity Prototype

When creating an app and responsive website to track your child’s doctor’s appointments it really hit me at a personal level, because I have a little guy with special needs. He has a lot of appointments, and it makes sense to create an app to keep track of previous appointments so that we know when to schedule more. Also, when it comes to appointments, there’s multiple institutions, because there’s school, pediatric, and therapy evaluations as well. While it may be ideal to create an integration with a lot of the portals, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially when it comes to confidential information.

The only downside to this type of app/website is that the information has to be entered manually. However, there’s really not a way around it when it comes to specific types of therapy appointments. It’s going to be specialized for each child, and it’s going to change over time as well. However, it is beneficial, because when it’s gathered in one app, appointments won’t lapse, and if you’re working with multiple families, and multiple children, it’s all going to be in one spot. There’s also a feature where you’re able to upload and email important documents, like a birth certificate for a child to join a sports team.

Lessons Learned

With this type of application, its always important to keep an eye on scope creep, but at the same time providing a valuable service for the user. Security is also really important in this type of app, because this is sensitive information. HIPPA will definitely be involved with creating it as well.

Also, creating forms is in itself an artform. This also goes for form validation, and meaningful and pertinent error messages. Text boxes with a stroke typically mean it’s an entry to fill out, while solid color boxes are buttons.
